This is Spot. We have named him this because he has a peculiar spot on his other wing. It almost appears to be a white or tan feather. But it has been there for several days, thats how we know it is the same bird. Of course when I had the camera out he walked from one side of the yard to the other without once turning that side to me.
This is an Eastern Phoebe gathering fluff for it's nest. We have had Phoebes nesting here since we bought the house. The first year they had their nest on our outside light and we could never turn it on while the nest was there. Then my neighbor put up some ledges under the eave of their garage and they moved next door. But they have always been a part of the neighborhood. They are insectivores, but always perch a moment on the crossbars of the feeder station.
I have been trying to get a picture of the Carolina Wren for months and finally succeeded. Such a cute little bird.
We had three Blue Jays at one time at the feeder today, such striking birds!
No Oriole action on the oranges yet, but they just went out yesterday. It's been a very busy day at Phlegmmy's Pheeder.
Hmmmmm, I haven't seen a Baltimore Oriole yet this year. Maybe I should try bribing them with oranges.

ReplyDeleteI had a very fortunate encounter with a Rock Wren yesterday. Wrens are so sassy and fun, I just love them. Rocks and Canyons are difficult to spot but water was the great attractor.
You certainly set a great table for the birds. Even fur and hair. I have never seen anyone offer grapes.
I long to live someplace where i can have feeders again.
I've heard that some birds like grape jelly and someone else recommended the grapes, so I'm giving it a try. I may end up seeing if the squirrels want them. I have a thistle feeder, one with black oil sunflower, the tray has a mix that has nuts in it which is what of lot of the birds like and I'm still putting out suet since it's been cool (and very popular with several different woodpeckers.)
